Disguised as ringworm...

I need help! I was diagnosed with ringworm on my scalp however it did not respond to treatment and tho it presents as ringworm it does not behave as such! No itching not spreading (have had it for 6 weeks and the same 3 spots I started with). Also I have bizarre symptoms! I never know what my scalp will be doing when I wake up! All of it boils down to my skin and tissue on my head are hardening and tightening. It is extremely painful! Sometimes my scalp (in affected areas) feels like nylon! Sometimes there are hard lumps hard as rock only to seemingly melt away under my fingers! Anytime I bother with affected areas or pick at them they react by getting harder and tighter the pain so severe it can bring me to my knees! I have an indentation (like a dip) on the top of my head because it is spasming so hard it is actually causing a dip in my scalp. The landscape of my scalp is almost constantly changing. I cant find anything on line with my symptoms and I will be getting a biopsy done. But Id like to know if anyone has ever heard of such a thing??! HELP!?

Hello These symptoms can be due to folliculitis or perifolliculitis scalp. Perifolliculitis scalp is characterised by small very itchy pustules within the scalp often most troublesome on the frontal hairline. The scalp should be washed with a mild normal shampoo as often as desired. Antidandruff shampoos containing antifungal agents such as ketoconazole or ciclopirox are sometimes helpful. Apart from that you need topical and oral antibiotics antihistamines oral steroids and topical tretinoin. My sincere advice is to get it examined from a dermatologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
