About a year and a half ago my dermatologist prescribed me some steroid cream due to dryness and irritation to the head of my penis. I put the cream on twice a day for about a week and one time after shortly putting the cream on I noticed my penis shriveled up and began feeling very firm. Ever since then the skin on my penis seems to be thinner and I can see a lot of veins on my penis. The worst symptom though is my difficulty getting and keeping erections. It is to the point that if im not constantly giving my penis simulation while erect the blood flows right away and I get soft. The tissue in my penis always seems to be firm too. I have been to multiple urologists and they say my penis looks fine and maybe its all in my head I know this is not the case. What can I do to correct this problem? Its a serious issue.

Hello Thanks for posting your query. I can understand your concern for the firm skin of penis and difficulty in erection. You have mentioned in your history that you had used topical steroids twice daily on the thin penis skin. Now one reason for skin thinning and more visibility of thin veins is overuse of steroids. Thinning redness of skin visibility of thin veins (telangiectasia) and skin atrophy are often side effects of topical steroids. But it depends on the site where it is used (thin or thick skin) the potency of steroid ( high potency or low potency) and the time duration for which it is used. These changes are typically observed following 2 to 3 weeks of moderate- to high-potency topical corticosteroid use. Now whether they are reversible or irreversible cannot be predicted. However another possibility which should be ruled out is of Peyronie’s disease. Peyronie’s disase is a connective tissue disorder involving the growth of fibrous plaques in the soft tissue of the penis. These plaques cause the penis to be firm and bent. Secondly the erection problems that you are having seem unrelated to the use of topical steroids or the skin rash that you are having. An erection problem is the inability to get or maintain an erection that is firm enough for a man to have intercourse. If the condition persists the medical term is erectile dysfunction. Causes may be psychological smoking alcohol illicit drugs and medical conditions like diabetes high blood pressure heart or thyroid conditions poor circulation low testosterone depression spinal cord and neurological causes. At your age the cause is mainly psychological. However you can get a comprehensive profile of investigations done after a through physical examination from a urologist. For the skin thinning and firming I suggest you to get it examined from a dermatologist. If need arises he /she may do a biopsy skin to rule out any other skin cause like lichen sclerosus. Treatment can be decided only after the diagnosis is confirmed. Hope that this information helps and hope that you get better soon. Wishing you good health.
