Hello Thanks for posting your query. I can understand your concern for the small bump but you have not mentioned the reason for which you were taking the antiviral drug. If oral herpes was suspected then possibility of herpes (HSV1) is there but from your symptoms of a feeling of swelling after taking the drug and a small hair arising from the bumps two other possibilities need to be ruled out. These include: 1) Folliculitis: Folliculitis is the inflammation of one or more hair follicles. The condition may occur anywhere on the skin. It starts when hair follicles are damaged by blockage of the follicle. In most cases of folliculitis the damaged follicles are then infected with the bacteria Staphylococcus (staph). A small hair arising from a bump is symptomatic of folliculits. 2) Second possibility is of an allergic reaction or angioedema because the feeling of swelling started immediately after taking the antiviral drug. Angioedema is the rapid swelling (edema) of the dermis subcutaneous tissue mucosa and submucosal tissues. Apart from that it can be the eruption of a herpes blister if there was a history of any exposure. However you are not presenting with the typical symptoms of oral herpes. The first symptoms of cold sores may include pain around your mouth and on your lips a fever a sore throat or swollen glands in your neck or other parts of the body. Then painful blisters may appear which break down. You need to get some investigations like sample from the sores to identify the virus culture analysis Tzanck smear antigen and antibody studies and blood sampling for antibody studies done to confirm the diagnosis. My sincere advice would be to get it examined from your doctor to rule out any allergic reaction as if it is an allergy then you may need to stop the medicine. If allergic reaction is ruled out then other two possibilities discussed above have to be evaluated. Hope that this information helps and hope that you will get better soon. Wishing you good health.
