Hi Have had GERD for appox 10 years. Took nexium 40mg daily until about 10 months ago when weight loss seemed to help and I weaned off. For the last 5 or six days I've had heartburn symptoms as well as pain under my rib cage on the left side. I have retstarted my nexium 40mg and heartburn is better but pain persists especially at night. The pain under the ribs feels like it's my diaphram cramping as it often refers to my left shoulder. Saw my doctor and he ruled out cardiac causes and said to try the nexium for week before anything else. My doctor says the gerd should not cause diaphram or shoulder pain but I am also quite bloated. Can gerd or gastritis cause pain or irritation in this way? The sensation is best described as that crampy feeling you sometimes get from overeating or exercising too soon after eating. thanks

I have this same types of issues and I have always thought it was due to Gerd. I was surprised to read your post ..that your doctor said gerd should not cause diaphragm or shoulder pain. My shoulder pain is located above my breast below the collar bone feels like a bloat or a tender muscle. I also can feel it directly behind to the back side of my shoulder blade. You mention boating and that is what i feel it is gas trapped up in the upper chest. Would love to hear more posts about this.
