My husband has been experiencing the following symptoms for over a year: nystagmus vertigo fatigue naseau. He will also get headaches occasionally and feels slight pressure in his head. These are episodic and there is no pattern to how they come on. They can last for minutes or hours. He was referred to an audiologist to address the vertigo but after many trial/errors/tests they indicated it was neurological and sent him to a neurologist. The doctor did an eval and basically told us that he had no idea what was wrong with him. He said he has no reason to believe he would have ms because his mri did not indicate anything but an arachnoid cyst. He said he does not know anything about the cyst and said we would have to go to a neurosurgeon for info. He did not seem confident that he could figure out the problem. So after going home and doing research we see that the symptoms he's having are also symptoms of arachnoid cysts. I want to go ahead and schedule something with a neurosurgeon but am not sure if the cyst is the problem because of the way the neuro brushed it off even though he can't think of anything that can be causing his problems. So does it seem logical that the symptoms are stemming from the cyst and a neurosurgeon would be the way to go?

Hi! I can understand your concerns. Actually most arachnoid cysts are symptomless. They usually require no treatment. However if your husband’s symptoms are due to the cyst then he may need a decompression surgery wherein a shunt is placed. A neurosurgeon is the best person to discuss this with. Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo brain tumors stroke Chiari malformation Ménière's disease and other balance disorders head injury and multiple sclerosis can cause nystagmus with vertigo. Please discuss these possibilities with the neurosurgeon even though the neurologist ruled out MS. I sincerely hope you will find this information useful in your journey towards better health for your husband. Hope he gets well soon! Good Luck and take care!
