I am 56 yrs old and have had high BP and CHF for quite a number of years now and am also overweight at 275 lbs. BP averages between 170/90 - 190/100. I am about to start a long term water fast to improve my heart function. I have studied the topic extensively and actually did a 21 day fast in 2010. My BP normalized and I was able to walk and even jog for short distances unfortunately I went back to my old ways and find myself back where I started a year ago. I remember my doctor was very surprised at the improvement in my heart function at that time. I did learn a lot during that fast especially the myths that surround fasting and what to expect. I know it is difficult to get started due to hunger and temptation but that disappears after the fourth day of the fast. I expect to start around Aug. 29th. Has anyone tried a fast ? Regards Gordon PS Will be seeing my doctor prior to start and going for complete blood workup.

Sounds like you have done your homework so I'm sure you have already read that this is a temporary fix at best. Plus it is not always safe to continue a water fast past 24 hours so I would have a long hard discussion with your doctor first so you can understand the impact of such a course of action. I am happy to hear that you plan on seeing your doctor first make sure to let us know what he says about it and good luck!
