Root Canal

I has a root canal last Thursday. My tooth was absessed and my dentist put me on antis. My pain increased so I had to find another dentist that was not out of town to look at my tooth. They determined it was cracked and that was what was causing my sensitivity and pain. From the x-rays my absess (abscess) was gone. He did a root canal. He did not fit me for a temporary crown. He told me to come back in few weeks. It is just filled. Am I suppose to still have pain? I cannot chew on that side and it I suck on a straw it still hurts. The pain is different from before. It hurts up in my tooth where he drilled. Is this common and how long before I go back if the pain persists?

Pain after a root canal is common. I've had severe post-root-canal pain for one to two weeks after a root canal. I've also had root canals that had NO pain afterward. Every tooth is different. All the ligaments and tissue around the tooth deep inside were traumatized the root canal and the irritation can be severe. Kind of like very deep straining and bruising. You already were told to come back in a few weeks. However what is the next plan? You said it is filled but no crown? I root canaled tooth NEEDS to be crowned; I don't even believe it's an option. I am concerned about the fact that they determined it was cracked. I'm not sure if a root canal can improve a cracked tooth but at the very least a crown is required
