Hey everyone Let me just say thanks in advance for any advice. I have a couple questions about some test results I got. 1) I had 2 ekgs That said I had an enlarged heart. One at my doctor s office and the other in the hospital... both times I got the test done while I was having a lot of anxiety. I then had an echocardiogram done that the cardiologist said was normal with no heart enlargement... my question is can 2 ekgs put out false positives? 2) when I was getting the results for my echocardiogram the cardiologist said that since I am a young and my chest is a little thinner that that's why my results came out with an enlarged heart.. is this true?? A little info about me... I'm 24 years old about 5'9" and weigh 154lbs. I have asthma and allergies and severe health anxiety... I used to smoke about a pack a day for 7 year's but since hearing this I have quit cold turkey. I appreciate any advice

Hello From what you say I would be relieved that your Echocardiogram was ok. This is the more useful and accurate procedure for determining heart enlargement issues and resultant possible effects such as in particular a reduced ejection fraction. The EKGs are primarily looking at heart electrical activity and rhythm and potential disturbances of these. Now that you have solved the big issue of smoking you would be wise to start to adopt self awareness of stress and its modification to reduce those anxieties. All the best to you.
