sending me to a liver specialist--SCARED!!

I don't really know where to start...I don't know what symptoms are relevant here so I'll list what I've been experiencing (healthwise) in this past year. I have Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety with panic attacks. I've been on medications for about 15 years for these disorders. It seems like every time I get a really big shock in my life--my Dad and my Grandma passed away within 2 weeks of each other exactly 2 years ago in May. Ever since I have caught every cold flu virus that goes around. I hardly leave the house because of my depression. But I digress... I have a fatty liver (non-diabetic and non-drinker) and I have been having a lot of problems with digestion. I had bloodwork done twice (about 2 months in between them) and my doctor told me I had high liver enzymes--one of them was a little over twice the amount it should have been. I always feel like I have the flu--extremely bad nausea ( I was diagnosed with Acid Reflux a few years ago and have been on Prevacid for that) but I have extremely bad heartburn after I eat pretty much anything and I have "puke" burps after meals. I'm dizzy all the time have a lot of brain fog. I had a barium swallow test that came back "okay"-- but it suggested that there may be something wrong with my duodenum. I have no appetite but cannot lose weight because I feel too sick to exercise. I have no idea if this has any relation to anything but last Christmas I noticed (after taking my nail polish off) that I had what looked like bruising under my 2 big toenails. Had tests done with GP then Podiatrist and they couldn't explain it other than trauma to the toenails...but wouldn't I have felt something? Anyways I'm a mess because I'm continuously in this limbo of having something wrong with me but never knowing what it is so I feel sick all the time. So my doctor is sending me to a liver specialist and I'm scared. The dizziness and nausea is so bad....could it be related to my liver problems? Any info is appreciated.... :(

Hi there! I am so sorry you are going through this. Don't be afraid I am sure your doctor wants you to go to a liver specialist to try to figure out why you have a fatty liver and why your enzymes are elevated. Have you checked to see if your medication could be causing any side effects? Is it certain foods that cause you to have the problems? This may sound silly but I have heard that a little vinegar in water can help with indigestion. I think it is supposed to counter act the acid. I know all about brain fog it is miserable add GAD and that really makes it much worse. I am sure someone will be a long soon with more thoughts or suggestions. Hang in there
