I was recently declined for a Disability Policy due to raised Enzyme readings in my liver. Gamma GT of 231 ALT 45 AST 25. Cholesterol 6.9. I rarely drink alchohol and the only medication I take if for High Blood Pressure. An earlier medical a few months ago showed a Gamma GT reading of 180. So it appears the level is increasing quite rapidly. My Dr has simply stated that its probably an irregularity I was born with. I know this is not true as medicals years back did not yield these results. Naturally I am very concerned. How dangerous is this and what do you recommend my next step be.

I was diagnosed with a high Gamma GT reading at 46 and now I am 63. I had some blood work done a few weeks ago because of another illness and my Gamma GT reading was amazing -- just slightly over the normal figure. I couldn't believe it. For years I had this complaint and first got a biopsy which was normal and then a few years later a CT Scan of liver with good results. My GP who is a very good doctor says that it could be GERD affecting the liver reading. I have suffered with GERD from age 32. Don't know if this helps.
