I was diagnosed with severe NASH last week after a liver biopsy. My doctor also diagnosed me with Hepatic Encephalopathy. He said it was because my ammonia levels were high and I had been having some short term memory problems and personality changes. Also he said my biopsy show high levels of iron in my liver. I was wondering if Nash could cause HE. everything I have read online so far only said that it was caused by cirrhosis which by my biopsy I do not have but I do have some fibrosis. Has anyone ever heard of NASH causing HE? My doctor also said that by my blood work he would have never though it was this bad and if he would have waited a few more years for a biopsy I would have cirrhosis but he believes that my condition is reverser.
