Brown MD Me and my boyfriend had sex for the first time about 2 weeks ago and the condom broke so that day he went out and got me the plan b pill. A week later we tried again and once again the condom broke but that time he didn't have the money on him so he bought the next day and didn't see me to give it to me until the day after that. So I took the plan b pill on the third day (you can take it up to 3 days). I should be getting my period about this time and I have yet to get my period. This morning I woke up and sorta had cramps and figured I was about to get my period so I put in a tampon and took medicine for my cramps. Then a few hours later I took out the tampon and instead of there being blood there was dark drown discharge and a small clot of something. I searched on the internet and some people said it could be the cause of your period being late or another person said it could be the bleeding that happens after the egg implants itself. And I'm really worried that I might be pregnant. Is the plan b pill method always effective? What does the brown discharge mean?

Hi! If you were my patient I would advise you that while plan B is not always effective it is pretty good. It works by delaying ovulation which will also delay your period. The brownish discharge probably means that your period is about to start. It usually means that blood is flowing very slowly. Wait abit to see if your period will start. Good luck!
