Hello just a bit of background information. I'm 17 years old started ortho tricyclen lo In September. My period in September started on the 24 and lasted till the 29. In October it was from the 24-28. Both of these periods seemed normal. Now here is what started to worry me roughly over 2-3 weeks on November 6 I began to lightly bleed again however it seemed way too early. This lasted to the 13th. Then to my luck(I just can't seem to catch a break) I started experiencing a somewhat decent amount of brown sticky discharge between the 14th and the 18th. Currently today November 19 I started seeing blood again. It is light however. I'm just confused as to what could be happening I don't know if it's the birth control or maybe the fact that the times I take my BC aren't the exact times every night. Recently I have had two blood tests done (one where you fast and one where you don't and all results came back normal). Also important to note I have not had sex in the past 3 months. If anyone can help it's greatly appreciated.

Hi! If you were my patient I would advise you that you are having breakthrough bleeding as a consequence of the pills. If you miss a pill or even take it late the bleeding can start. Once it starts it can persist for quite awhile. One trick to get the bleeding to stop is to double up your pills--in other words take two in one day for a few days until it stops. This TOTALLY messes up your schedule if you do this--for example your pill pack may be saying Friday when it is only Wednesday. SO I don't recommend doing it very often. As long as you are certain that you are not pregnant the bleeding is harmless and you can safely ignore it until it stops on its own too. Good luck!
