I have been on nuvaring for 3 years. I have never had any problems with it. I have only spotted a couple times in the past but they were all normal type spottings Last week I started spotting. I started to worry when it was 3 days in. I had only ever spotted for a day It has been about 8 days maybe a little longer. I am getting worried. I dont know if i should take the nuvaring out or keep it in. I am scheduled to take it out in 4 days so i figured id act like everything is normal. I have an OBGYN but i am away at college and cant visit a doctor until thanksgiving break because of my insurance. I took the nuvaring out so i could rinse it off today and noticed it looked like there was a slit in it like the ring had torn. i dont know if thats the cause if the meds arent working if it scratched my vagina if im having serious medical problems or if im just paranoid.

Hi! If you were my patient I would advise you that you are probably just having irritating break through bleeding.. I ALWAYS advise a pregnancy test in these situations. The small imperfection in the ring is probably not enough to cause a problem with the absorption of the medication but I do advise disposing of it and using your new one. If you like you could do that a few days early and just start the new ring equally early. If you have a positive pregnancy test you should definitely remove the ring. Good luck!
