i've just started taking the progesterone only pill the cerazette on thursday (25/07/13) and i take it around the same time i'm usually about half hour late... so not a big gap. the nurse told me that i can have unprotected sex after 48 hours of being on the pill as long as i take it correctly. i'm meeting my boyfriend on thursday and i was wondering if he ejaculates inside me would i still be protected or would we need to practice the pull out method? a really worried girl. thank you so much!

Hi! If you were my patient I would advise you that after two weeks of use you should be protected and no longer need condoms or other back up method. Before that time a condom would be a good idea. Condoms are always a good idea when starting a new relationship for protection from sexually transmitted dieases--pills don't protect against that. The progestin onley pill is slightly less effective that regular birth control pills but works quite well if taken appropriately. Good luck!
