Hi my 2 yr old had influenza last month and lost 2 pounds. Immediately he got affected with stomach flu from a week. He lost a pound now and still didnt get any better. Ped asked to give him ondasetron twice everyday. He is sleeping mostly and eating nothing at all. He is just 25.5 lb now. I am getting very worried. He became very thin. I am crying everyday. Its so hard to see him so. He had vomitings initially. After i started giving ondasetron he is not vomiting but had diarrhea. Now he has normal stools 2-3 times everyday. Its is the 8th day. Still not eating and loosing weight very fast. Plz help.

Understand your concern. As he recovers completely his appetite will improve and he will gain weight. These viruses over time adapt that means they develop new strains to fight the medications and immune mechanisms to survive. Besides it depends on one’s immunity also. If it is good the person may not develop the infection and even if he develops it may be mild. If the immunity is relatively less then he is likely to easily contact the infection and may have more symptoms. If the infection has affected the digestive tract it is usually carried via food/water through an infected carrier. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
