Need new Aids

My one hearing aid the mic stopped working but I have noticed a gradual hearing loss again. The Audiologist that I saw for the aids I have is the same one who now works at Miracle Ear.now.I went for my hearing exam and my hearing has become less aging is mainly the cause i suppose as I am a senior. She was telling me about a good grade hearing aid with 24 something but I could not understand her. The price was $4900 for the two aids. I told her I would think about it and called her to tell her I could not afford the price. She said she could sell me a Resound or a Starkey aids both for $3000 with 12-18 whatever she is referring to as the 24.Can you explain what she means. I did not know Miracle Ear carried name brands. I would have a 30 day return policy but would like to know more about if the price and the 12-24 would be good. My colhears in my right ear are destroyed from a ear infection years ago but my hearing is good my right ear I have severe hearing loss. So the left hearing aid is transmitting what I hear to the right. She told me with these newer aids she has seen people with hearing improvement not to the point of not wearing aids.. Also said these aids will be customized for me but she can do programming and add programs. she did a great job on the aids I have now. Thanks LIne

Hearing Aid technology can sometimes sound like confusing terminology. The 24 (and 12-18) refers to CHANNELS. Sounds are processed and amplified by hearing aids based on frequencies (or the pitch of a sound). The more channels the hearing aids have the more fine tuned they can be to your individual hearing loss. When your hearing aids offer many channels we can adjust each sound that is too loud without sacrificing the things you want to hear. The more channels the more natural the sound may be. The prices quoted seem to accurately represent those technology levels. On another note you deserve to feel comfortable enough to ask any question when consulting with an audiologist. It's very important to find someone who takes the time to patiently explain the hearing aid options clearly. You should never leave the office confused. You have the right to be educated on the hearing aids you are purchasing. So keep asking until you feel completely comfortable with what you are choosing.
