I have been suffering from what I have been told is a yeast infection since December 9 2013. I have had numerous doses of diflucan. I have also been given terazol 7 twice. I have also used monistat 7 a few times. Everytime I go back the my gynecologist is shows yeast on the wet prep that is done in the office. I had a one swab test done in March 2014 and it was positive for mycoplasma hominis and a bacterial infection. I was treated with Zithromax. I am scared to death. I have been tested for all std's which were negative. I had a pap done last week that was normal. I am so scared and confused. If it was a yeast infection why would it show up on the wet prep but not on my pap or on the one swab that was sent to the lab? Could it be something more serious? I have read that hiv can cause recurrent yeast infections but I have had 3 hiv tests over the past 3 months that were all negative. What do I do?

i! If you were my patient I would advise you that you have ruled out HIV with your negative tests. Recurrent yeast infections are common and difficult to treat. Antibiotic use can contribute to recurrent yeast so be judicious with their use. A culture for yeast can be very helpful to establish the type of yeast and the sensitivities to antifungals. Long term therapy is sometimes indicated. Hope this helps!
